The Things Kids Say. Star If You Like?

My husband wants to tour the world and leave the kids behind for six months?
I have four daughters aged 19, 17, 14 and 10.
The eldest is at Oxford university. The two middle girls are at Rugby boarding school.
The youngest is at a prep school. She will hopefully be going to Rugby next year too. And the 17 year old will be going to Cambridge next year.
So my husband suggested that next year we take a 6 month holiday from October until April. We would fly the kids over to wherever we are at Christmas just for a few weeks and then they can go back to school. We would live at the October half term and be back by the easter holiday.
So actually we wouldn’t see them any less than we do now.
But do you think it would be a bad idea?
We would rather not wait until January as we want to be back by April to support the girls with their summer exams which start in May and last until June.
We will wait until Charlotte has finished her first half term at Rugby.
Of course we will ask the girls first! We just wanted to check if WE were ready to do it before we went.
We don’t want to go for a year. We feel that is unfair on the girls, and too long to leave them.

How can your teach your kids who are nearing aarp-membership age to be self-sufficient?
Yes, we know that’s called enabling, but there are grandkids involved, and we don’t want them to suffer. Dear Abby says no one can take advantage of you without your permssion, but my philosophy has always been if I have it and someone else needs it, I should share.
But lately, I haven’t had enough to share.
