Math teachers. Why do we need to know so much math?
October 3rd, 2009 Posted by: admin
So I’m a sophomore in high school and have already taken enough math classes to graduate (I’m in advanced math). I want to be a journalist when I grow up, so I’m figuring that I’ll probably never need to use much algebra, geometry, trig, calc, etc. in my career. Just your basic arithmetic, like adding and subtracting, multiplying/dividing, etc. Most kids don’t go into professions that require and extensive amount of math. I know that some do, but most don’t. So as a teacher, why do you think that we need to learn so much math? Will there ever be a time we need to use all of it? Aside from helping our own kids with their homework when the time comes? Thanks for any input!

How to convince my math teacher to give me extra credit?
September 24th, 2009 Posted by: admin
As you can see from my last question, I am in a bit of a slump. I have nearly a D- in math [geometry] and the term ends in 2 weeks. My math teacher DOES NOT ever give out extra credit, as she believes that it isn’t fair and that kids won’t work hard enough.
I try EXTREMELY hard in math and I always do my homework and study a lot for quizzes and tests alike. But since we’ve started geometry in math, I’ve been freaking out. My grade is getting lower and lower with all of the quizzes i’ve had. I even got a 60% on a quiz because I couldn’t finish it because the damn teacher kept talking to random people. I asked her for help 5 times, and I got help. But I ran out of time.
Now I know that you all, especially teachers, will say that I don’t deserve nor should I be asking for extra credit, but c’mon. I REALLY need this. I’m usually an A-B student, and I don’t want a report card saying “A+, A, B, D-” hanging on my fridge. I know that I don’t deserve it but I really need a way to convince my teacher
–>btw my mom is writing a note to my teacher asking her for a chance for me to study after school with her and to give me some assignments for a few points.
–>ALSO. please don’t tell me to quit my whining and to **** it up. well i CAN’T. i haven’t slept in a few days and personal things have made my life a living hell. so think before you post. =[
carrie->tnxx! haha yur right. i need to stop hiding behind notes and take some action. and i do have a history of trying hard. i always ask questions and do my best on tests. thnxx<33 (:

Day care woes?
May 22nd, 2009 Posted by: admin
My son is really hating daycare lately. He is 7yr so too young to be home alone. He is the only school age kid at his daycare and gets really bored. I tried supplying him with puzzle books, coloring things, plus he has homework to do. At daycare they have snack , watch tv, and play outside. Its not the greatest daycare in the world activity wise but he is well taken care of, its close enough that he can walk from school, and the sitter is very kind and understanding. He is only there 2 maybe 21/2 hrs a day. Any ideas on how to make it more enjoyable or on new activities he can do with little adult help and safe around toddlers?
I looked for a babysitter. Girls here make around $10/hr for babysitting so that didn’t work well. Unfortunately in a college town with lots of professionals babysitting rates are horrid.

Do u think u are making kids lazy by helping them doing their homework.Choose your option and explain?

a.im sick of seeing these kids asking for help in this site
b.there’s nothing wrong helping these poor kids.
c.Their should be some restrictions on these kids, they should start finding things on their own rather than asking questions related to their homework here

Can I create a user account on my PC that does not allow my teenage kids internet access?
March 24th, 2009 Posted by: admin
I’d like my boys to be able to their homework — without the temptations of going on line to chat with friends, check out their myspace page, etc. Right now, we enter the password for them, but they frequently are playing around on the web rather than doing their homework. Thanks!

What are going to do with these children?
February 3rd, 2009 Posted by: admin
My sister inlaw dumped off her children in my house, originally she told us, the children with be here only for the weekend, so I gladly invited them to come to stay, because I thought their parents will be staying too, at least that’s what she said.
No CommentsOn the same day after their arrival, she and her husband droved off, and left the children with us. Didn’t leave them any food, money, and we called her asking her when she’ll be picking them up, she said she would like them to stay for the entire summer vacation. This is so crazy! I know she doesn’t have money to sent them off to summer school, but to pull a trick like that on us is unthinkable, what are we going to do?
We’re not their parents they don’t listen to our rules, they’re on our computer 24/7, downloading games and has no homework to do? How can we get their parents to pick them up? They’re our relatives, so should we have any say in this?

Do you think school is rough on kids and teenagers?

Do you think school is rough on kids and teenagers?
Seriously, some have after school sports that they are required to go to practice every day for 2 hours. And if it is a game 3 hours. People have AP classes that gives lots of hwk over break. Barely any sleep)school starts at 7:30 am over here). Some kids have 0 period which starts at 6:32. And lets not forget the dreaded English books. They make teenagers read thick books(Grapes of Wrath 500 pages) over a short period of time. And they have to read another book for their book report(one every quarter has to be appropriate level) Lets not forget reading science chapters, history sections, etc. Science is hard to like Chemistry. Teenagers also have a hard time with math because math in high school is hard. Proofs, algebra, calculus, stats…etc. Some kids have a hard time with a subject. For me it is math and science. Lets not forget extra classes such as SAT’s, language school on Saturday’s(with homework and starts in the morning). In 11th grade people have to take SAT’s for college and etc.
What do you guys think?

How do you deal with baby fever?
September 17th, 2008 Posted by: admin
I really want to have a baby, so bad I can’t stand it. I know I can’t right now because my husband and I are both still in school. We are planning to start a family after we both graduate in August, but how do I deal with wanting a baby until then?
I have friends who have babies, but they live over an hour away. I can’t have dogs or cats where I live, but I have a bird. I don’t have a lot of time to babysit because I am always at school or doing homework.
