Can I enroll my kids in public school in Belgium?
October 9th, 2009 Posted by: admin
I am considering going to Brussels for a few months to assist a friend who lives there. I have two school age children. Would I be able to enroll them in school for the time we are there. I would also keep them up on their school work from their American school, but would like them to experience school in Belgium. They know some French and are in kindergarten and first grade so could pick up language quickly. Thoughts, advice, pros, cons - all welcome.

Feelings about kids starting school?
August 14th, 2009 Posted by: admin
My oldest child is starting kindergarten on September 2 and I’m extremely sad. I don’t know why. I don’t want him to go, I want to keep him home. It 5 full days per week. It seems like he’s growing way too fast. I had a hard time last year when he started preschool. Is it normal for me to feel this way? I feel like I won’t be there to protect him and I’ll be missing out on so much of his life.

What do you think about those parents who do their kids projects?
May 25th, 2009 Posted by: admin
My daughter is in kindergarten, once in awhile the teacher will assign some small art projects for them to work on at home, I usually let her do whatever they want and just assists on cutting paper or gluing. However, there are 1 or 2 kids in her class always have these extra details and extravagance projects obviously are done by adults, and when they show up with the projects other kids like mine feel a little bad about what they have done … i think it is a little annoying when parents involved too much in those project, they are suppose to be done by the kids, don’t you think?

How much education should be on the part of the parent?
April 11th, 2009 Posted by: admin
Here’s the background: My daughter’s daycare is a place where the children have been together since their first year.. it is wonderful, the kids are happy, safe, and actually look forward to it.. The parents have bonded and we do many things together outside of the school. They do learn in themes, but their themes may be “butterflies” or “growing things”… etc.. This year, many parents started pulling their children out of daycare because as they attempted to enroll their children in Kindergarten, they were told the children did not have the skills needed to start (i.e. letters, numbers, shapes..) I feel that if she is happy and safe.. I can pick up the slack at home by teaching her letters and numbers.. (I am a teacher and know what to teach and how..) So, now my “friends” and I are at odds because I think that some education is part of the parent’s job.. ?? What do you think?

Why are naps wasted on the young?
March 25th, 2009 Posted by: admin
As a kid I was forced to take naps in kindergarten, etc. Now that I’m in college, I need naps because classes are actually rigorous and I feel tired more often. Why don’t adolescents and young adults get to take naps whereas energetic kids are forced to?

Dr. Laura believes that all moms with children under the age of kindergarten should not be working outside the home.

Kids brushing teeth at school?
December 16th, 2008 Posted by: admin
Has anyone ever had a problem with the teachers of your children not allowing your child to brush their teeth after lunch … I have not had this problem before my daughter was in pre-k and kindergarten and they did not have a problem with her excusing herself after lunch to go brush her teeth now this year she is in 1st grade and she says the teacher is not allowing her to brush her teeth and she is not allowed to go to the restroom unless it is a group bathroom time .. does anyone know if it is unallowed for children to brush their teeth after lunch at school or is this just a classroom policy .. i am wanting to write the teacher a note but i am unsure … i havnt had this problem before with the past years in school or in her daycare that she attends during the summer.

Has anyone taken classes online? What financial aid is available?
December 15th, 2008 Posted by: admin
I am a 27 year old mom of 3 and would like to become a labor and delivery nurse. One of my kids will start kindergarten this coming sept. and the others might go to preschool. I wanted to get some of my prerequisites out of the way with some online classes but dont really know where to begin and how it works. Can you tell me anything that might be helpful. I also work partime in the mornings. Thanks for your advice.

How to get kids to play peacefully and be friends?
October 23rd, 2008 Posted by: admin
When picking up my friend’s daughter (kindergarten), this chubby 1st grader comes up to her and asks if she wants to play a game, so I let her go and have fun and just watched them at the playground. Her other friend that is also a first grader wanted her to play with her too. That chubby kid apparently doesn’t like her friend and yells out, “She’s MY friend. Not YOURS!” Then they start arguing and ask her, “I’m your friend right?” Poor girl, she’s asked, “Aren’t you both my friend?” I was saying, “Hey guys, just play together. How about you all become good friends and have fun?” That chubby boy got so mad, hitting me and said, “Who do you think you are? She’s MY friend. Not yours!” Her other friend was also arguing she’s her friend not his. So I told them people can have more than one friend, even a 100. The chubby boy (think has a crush on her) was holding her hand and stuff yelling, “she MY friend though. she can only have me!” He was going crazy yelling at her other friend more. I ended up asking if she wanted to go home instead and so we left.
